Default And so the SC saga ends ..............

After long arduous hours of busting knuckles, and getting frustrated by wiring issues for two weeks, my install for a co-worker finally got completed over the weekend (actually, only after an hour of work on Saturday). The owner had been driving it around shifting at 6,000 without it, as recommended by Vortech and others while we waited for the timing computer to get fixed.

We received the timing box back from Vortech on Thursday, so we scheduled for me to get it installed on Saturday. Because of tweaking and playing with the wires in the compartment for so long before, putting it back in was a snap.

Fired it up ....... no CEL. Let it idle and re-map itself, turned it off, cranked it up again ........ good to go!

Grabbed the shades and driver's license, buckled in, and went for a test cruise. After adequate warm up, I redlined a gear at 3/4 throttle to make sure it would get there without issues popping up. It was fine, so then I found my usual testing area which is the end of a highway that dead ends into a park and ride, waited for no cars, then blasted it all the way to redline up through 5th.

I don't really have a frame of reference to go with since I barely got to drive it stock, and I sold my R two years ago, so haven't been driving a fast car daily. But the SC'ed sTooK was pretty damn quick!! The highway leaving the park and ride slants up fow about a mile, so I was 0-120'ing it up an incline, and it pulled very well!

It is deceiving since the boost builds progressively as the engine revs. It is a very linear pull, and just continues to go up. I really wish there were a 1,000 or so more rpms ..... ..... as if 9,000 isn't enough! It felt like it kept wanting to pull!

I have set the V-AFC to 3-4% accross the board since the SC kit tends to run lean, we are talking about hitting up the local dyno, but i figured I would let the owner get used to it, and break everything in before fine tuning it.

He told me this morning that 3rd gear is a beast for him now, lots of pull starting from 6 grand on up. He is very happy! Only issue is that he comes very close to stalling when leaving a stop light at low rpms ........ thought other people have had this issue also as I was reading through over the last month ...... is this true??

Over all, not a really hard install, I just ran into a bunch of snags that weren't expected. Would I do it again??? Yeah, with the learning curve from this one, I would be up for it. Starting from scratch again? Probably not .......

They owner will have to get use to giving the car a little gas after coming to a complete stop. I had that happen to me to...now I'm use to it and I don't have any problems. He'll just have to get use to when the clutch starts to grab.

Do you know if the timing unit that you got from Vortech is a new version? I've sent several e-mails to Vortech, but they never replied

Not sure. They sent one as soon as they had it available because the owner called and talked to one of the VP's there, and he was bending over backward to take care of the owner ..... The owner is a very persuasive guy, and very hard-headed. It worked to get us the timing control is an expedient fashion .......
