Soft Top Motor?
yes, ive searched. but didnt find what i was looking for.
I know people take the complete soft top assembly out if they get a hardtop.
But i was just wondering, if i wanted to keep the softtop, but save some weight, could i just take out the motors? and put the top up and down by hand like the solstice.
it is possible? about how much weight would i save?
thanks
nick

They designed the motor to be as light as possible. The top isnt easy to reach for so they added a motor. I image there would be a way to convert it but, before you do that you should consider the benefit vs. trouble.
Just pull the whole top?
You'd have to drop a good 100 lbs before it really made a difference.
How much do you weigh? I know I'd save more wt. than the motors if I went on a diet and lost 20 lbs!
Plus where do you stop with dropping weight?
Once you get started you cant stop.
Why not back date the top to one without glass too? or just remove.
Radio and speakers are heavy.
dont need a spare unless youre going out of town.
factory wheels could be lighter
carpet and sound deadening could go along with the heavy stock seats.
Stock exhaust is heavy-light single titanium works
Now its no good for the road..
If you take it off the road yank the airbags...so you can race it.. well but then you need to add weight .. a roll bar. Maybe a hard top or not..
so leave it alone or strip it for racing!

Many reason why people remove their soft top is because of weight and also in addition to adding a hard top. The soft top will no long will with the latches that the hard top provided. There for you cant not lock your soft top if you decided to take your hard top off.
Thank you
Thank you

I'm 100% certain this is incorrect!
IIRC, the HTs for the earlier S2000s came with different strikers for use with the HT. It is my understanding that the later S2000s now come stock with the same strikers as needed for the HT.
Yes, some people do remove the soft-top when they have a HT, but it's generally because they want to save weight, not because the soft-top is unusable after having installed a HT.
Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not entirely sure what you were trying to say in your post. However, I believe you were saying that after installing a hardtop, if you remove the hardtop and use your soft-top, you cannot latch the softtop.

Yeah that's what I mean by the soft top is unuseable once the hard top is install. I have a 05 Ap2 and once I puchase my hard top from honda and install it. When I remove the hard top and use my soft top, I was unable to hook it with the latches that were provided with the hard top kit. My friend had the same problem so I know for a fact that on AP2 when installing a hard top the soft top is useless since you can lock it up.
