Many reason why people remove their soft top is because of weight and also in addition to adding a hard top. The soft top will no long will with the latches that the hard top provided. There for you cant not lock your soft top if you decided to take your hard top off.

Thank you
I got Mugen HT and I dont have any problem of hook it with the soft top latches.

There is a plug\connector behind the passenger side dash, look in the owners manual for the exact location. Disconnect it if you want to try and put the soft top down manually to see how difficult it is. I have never tried, I just remember reading that if the soft top motor fails you should un-plug this connector before trying to operate the soft top manually. I do not think this would cause any damage to the motor, but I really don't know. Good Luck

Did you install it yourself?

I weighed each soft top motor and they were 3.5lbs. The whole soft assy w/ motor weighs about 65lbs. I was going to take the motors out but they weigh so little it's not worth the hassle of raising/lowering the top manually.

Yeah that's what I mean by the soft top is unuseable once the hard top is install. I have a 05 Ap2 and once I puchase my hard top from honda and install it. When I remove the hard top and use my soft top, I was unable to hook it with the latches that were provided with the hard top kit. My friend had the same problem so I know for a fact that on AP2 when installing a hard top the soft top is useless since you can lock it up.
You must not have installed it properly. The soft top is intended to work when you take off the hard top. It works this way on my AP2.

Build one yourself out of PVC or wood. There are several examples here on the site if you search. Also, you can always hang it overhead in your garage with a simple lift with lines and pulleys.
