Default Soft top won't operate

So I removed the engine and trans in a car, and now the soft top doesn't operate. Wondering if somebody knows why. I figure I lost a ground or something somewhere, but not sure. Any insight is appreciated.

Edit. the motor and trans are still on the ground, I just want to operate the top. So the wiring under the hood is just hanging there.

I know this is a dumb question --- pardon me --- but, did you remove the battery, when you pulled the engine?

Check the little wire that connects to your Ebrake handle underneath your center console.

The roof won't operate unless is also reconnected. With the engine out beware of loose wires.

Are your windows going down when you press and hold the top button?

there is nothing happening, I believe it must be the fact that the vehicle speed sensor is not telling the module the car is stationary. I may slide the tranny back under and find out.
