As you said. It's a disabled motion sensor. The car must be at stop for ragtop motor to work. May need to insert a dummy load to fool the ECU?

So I went and removed the vehicle speed sensor from the trans and plugged it in and still nothing. Anybody have any ideas. I'm sure ones i reinstall a motor and trans it will come back to life but i want to put the top up while I'm waiting to find a motor. Its likely something silly I'm missing or not thinking about.

Check fuses? Do continuity test to ragtop motor. That would be my next guesses.

Good luck!

I'm not saying this is the case because I don't know what year your S is but recently my top wouldn't go up, Windows wouldn't go down either and I panicked. After thinking about it for a while I finally checked the connector to the switch and I had accidently switched it with the rear defogger (mine is a 2007) the plug is exactly the same just a different color. Once I swapped that everything was glld
