Like Randy already stated, the bog is most likely caused by the ECU seeing boost. I know the earlier kits had a check valve mounted under the MAP Sensor but maybe the "small" box your talking about is their version (or www.splitsec.com since I think they make the "big" box) of an electronic check valve. Did you remove both boxes or just the "big" one?

Put the "small" box back in ...... if that is indeed the electronic check valve. Wonder if they're going to supply the early adopters w/ the electronic check valve too

If you mean us Vortech "customers", thanks for the sentiments but don't feel too sorry for us. Feel more sorry for Vortech 'cause when I put mine on the car and it ain't perfect, Vortech and the whole damn world (through this forum) will here about it.

The timing box thing is really the only major problem with the kit.

Vortech should have been able to determine which kits had bad boxes
and notified its customers, primarily because it costs us significant time and money
to determine if a box is bad and deal with replacing it. Since they didn't do that, and still don't know precisely which boxes are bad, you have to assume a box is bad if it was in a kit that shipped in august or september (maybe even october). I had two different varieties of bad boxes in this time frame. The third one worked. Don't bother installing them, just ship them back and have Vortech verify that they are good.

UGHGHGHGHGHG!

UPDATE:

I called on Wednesday the 27th at 10:00 A.M. and told them about my situation and ordered the new timing box. Today I called to see what the delay was since I haven't received it yet only to find out that it's just being shipped out today. So Wednesday they were lazy, Thursday OFF, Friday lazy. Two perfectly good days that they could have shipped it out yet they wait until today.

Tell me,
If Vortech knew there was a problem with their timing box. Why didn't cast a recall and replace the box instead of wasting our time.

This is pathetic and UNACCEPTABLE.

I AM THINKING OF GETTING ONE BUT THIS IS PUTTING ME OFF SO MUCH.

UPDATE II:

Okay, I got my new timing box but still having some problems.... I was driving the car aroud real hard for my friend, everything was working fine. But a little into the drive, the CEL came one. I've tried reseting the ECU twice only to have it come back on. Mechanical wise, everything seems and sounds fine. Any idea what this CEL could be? Don't have a scan tool.

if the fuel parameters are too off, it'll throw a code either saying you are running too rich or the time period where you were having the problems, you could've fouled a spark plug or two. It's tough to say what the check engine light is on for, but I would not drive the car hard until everything is checked out to be okay. You're not running a straight pipe? no loose wires in engine bay or where the "boxes" were installed? just for safe measure check all fluid levels. Be careful man, it might be somewhat hard to blow a stock motor other than a misshift, but when you run boost, the slightest thing going wrong could make things bad.
