Default some please help COIL PACK gets super hot

My car has a bad misfire that i have been trying to fix for over 2 months now
I have read every forum and tried everything under the misfiring thread.

2000 s2000 91k miles
Today I thought I fixed my car. Idled fine, no check engine light
I decided to take the car for a test drive. Half way down the block My car starts
misfiring and cel comes on. The coil on cylinder 4 melted into 2 pieces.
what would cause the coil to get this hot???

list of things I have done
map whack
iac clean
new coil pack
new spark plugs
compression check and leak down.. good
valve adjust
timing is good
tested ecu with known good ecu same problem.
wire is good
all grounds are good
good battery

anyone have any idea why cylinder 4 coil pack is getting soo hot?
all the others are fine cylinder 1-3

please help

Your 4th plug is not tightened properly allowing gasses from the engine to melt your coilpack. Check the torque on all plugs asap. Check compression too, if you have a comp tester

Double check torque is good. I also did a compression test and leak down. Everything is good. I can't figure it out. Sad face. Fml

18 -20 ft lbs torque on the plugs needed.

Torque is good. Cylinder 4 coil pack is still the only one that gets hot with in 5 seconds of idle.

Yes, there is good connection, checked with a voltage meter. Could it be the ignition module?

Basic physics; if you're not getting any blow by the plug, that leaves high electrical resistance or arcing as the heat source. Prior to replacing the #4 coil pack this time compare the resistance with an Ohm meter to the other coil packs. Then check for physical damage to the insulation. You should be OK if they both check out.

What was the CEL code?

Is it the 4th cylinder coil that has failed more than once ?. If you replaced the coil pack in the past did you use one that was made for 2005 or earlier version, as the 06+ version might not be compatible with previous year s2k's. There are 3 kinds of coil packs used on the S2K, ap1 and 04-05 are compatible with eachother, 06+ coils should not be used on other models.

Cel code p1399 and p0304 I will check the coils with an ohm meter later today.

Yes, cylinder 4 is the only one that has failed. I replaced the coil packs with 04-05s
