Default Something's wrong here! MPG in 04!

My car has almost 2000 miles and I noticed that I can only travel slightly over 200 miles per tank, maybe 215 the most. It's very weird since the car can take 13.2 Gal. and everytime I fill up it takes around 10.5 gal. the most. That means that the car has around 2+ gal. still in the tank but the car tells me is empty, like no lines showing in the dash. I was wondering if this is a problem my car is having or it happens to other owners. I remember one of my friend had a Spa 01' and he use to go from Kendall to South Beach (probably over 30+ miles) were he lived with an empty tank and I would tell him that the car was going to run out of gas and he told me all the time "I know the car, it has enough gas to make it to the end of the world". We never ran out of gas but I don't wanna run the same risk. How do I know how many miles can I get out of my car with no lines of gas showing. Also the light comes on as soon as I have 3 lines left. This is annoying. I drive very normal when low in gas. Dont rev over 5K RPMs. Can someone clear this thing out for me?

Thanx.

If my car averages 20 MPG- 25 MPG I supose with my driving style I should be in the middle but not lower than 20 MPG. I should easily get 264 miles at least but I don't get even close to that.

for comparison's sake:
i average 25 mpg and thats with occasional spirited driving. i usually reset my trip meter everytime i fill up. when i hit around 230 miles on the trip meter, i have maybe 1/8-1/4 tank left. when i fill up i can put in about 9 gallons.

230 miles / ~9.00 gallons = 25.55 MPG

- I usually fill up at AROUND 260 miles... yes, gas light is on...
- I've only filled my car up twice (had it for 2 weeks)
- I don't plan on hitting the gas light everytime... hahaha

I fill up at 240-250 here. According to my running spreadsheet, my max range is anything between 285 and 330 miles depending on local conditions.

When I do fill it, the gas light is on solid and the car takes between 10.5 and 11.5 gallons. I don't have the nerve to take it any lower than that.

Brute,

There's been a number of threads regarding the gas gauge in the '04. Yes, it's a crappy design but you'll learn to live with it. You have no choice . It is not progressive at all, the last three bars go down super fast and when it shows empty and the light come on there is still a lot of gas left in the tank.

I get about 180-190 miles per tank. I guess my spirited driving is a little out of hand.

One more thing to consider, as your engine breaks in, your mileage will increase.

I am averaging a pretty solid 24mpg right now in pretty mixed driving with way more stop and go than I'd like.

The first 1k miles or so the car was getting about 20.

As always, your mileage may vary. *sorry, no pun intended*
