Finally replaced my plugs with the OEM NGK. Should have done this long ago (I'm at 95000 km or roughly 60k mi). Anyway, car feels like new. the pic above is from the cylinder closest to the firewall.

that doesn't look good, oil soaked, land it looks like a detonation problem just by quick glance at the plugs - if those are metallic deposits on the plug. Are you boosted ?, or perhaps the oil in the cylinder is causing detonation.

No, I'm not boosted. I hope it's just a worn plug since the car is 10yrs old. The plug in the first cyclinder (closest to front) doesn't look too bad but they look progressively worse the closer you go to the firewall.

could just be oil related deposits. I did mine recently at 90k kms and all four of mine were dry, and dark in colour. How much oil consumption are you seeing between oil changes ?.

Since i changed to Pennzoil platinum synthetic the last 2 oil changes, it's been burning like crazy. I needed to top up very 500km or so. However, when the dealership did the oil changes, I never had any noticeable oil consumption.

yeah that corresponds with the condition of your plugs, excessive oil consumption definitely going on there. You might want to consider a high mileage oil, it could reduce the consumption for you. You might benefit from a new pcv valve if the current one is more than 2 years old.

I'd run a couple short oil change intervals using a high mileage oil such as Valvoline, Castrol, or Penzoil High mileage in a 10w30 viscosity, and use a 1/2 bottle of Riselone additive with each oil change for two oil changes. It can help to clean up some deposits that might have accumulated on the piston rings and sometimes that can help reduce oil consumption from frozen/seized piston rings. After that continue running High mileage oils or possibly go to a 5w40 weight oil and see if things improve. Make sure your pcv valve is fairly new too.

My consumption dropped quite a bit after doing this. In 1000 kms since doing this I have not consumed a drop of oi, so it is down quite a bit and I am quite impressed. I also changed over to an ap2 (2004-2005) valvecover and pcv system, which is reported to decrease oil consumption over the ap1 variant.

S2K Type R: That's a ruff looking plug.Maybe a 1 step hotter plug might work best.I know Honda recommends a 7,but try a 6 copper plug.Gap @ 44.

The NGK BKR6E works well especially in older, higher mileage cars.

A set of 4 is about $8.
