Default Spark plug seals

One of my spark plug seals in the valve cover is torn and I'm trying to replace, but I can't figure out how to remove it

Does anybody know how, or know where it is in the service manual?

much grass,
mike

They are much like a main seal on the crank, you have to remove the valve cover.

Basically unplug the sensor connecters, undo the hoses/ sparkplug wires, and pull the coils.

You will want to clean the valve cover seal, or maybe even replace it along with the seals on the valve cover bolts. I didnt but the valve cover started leaking again and it may not be that expensive, I know the plug seals are only a few bucks.

I have the cover off, but I can't figure out how to remove the spark plug seals. I have a new valve cover gasktl and all the bolt seals, but I don't have the spark plug seals yet. I seems like they're held in with a metal ring or something.... do I have to punch them out? If so, do I need a special tool?

Thanks,
Mike

This sounds like a warranty issue to me. Let the dealer fix it for you.

You should have this done as a warranty item unless there are reasons why you can't. The spark plug seals are a pressure fit. I assume that they are sitting in the valve cover at the moment. Wrap the end of a flat head screw driver with tape so you don't scratch anything and use it to pry the seal out of its "well". Work it out a bit at a time so it comes out evenly. Installation calls for you "setting" the seal on top of the spark plug tube and then lining it up when you put the valve cover down on it. If this proves too difficult to "line" it up, then just push it back into its well. Put some engine oil on the seal or in the well to help it slide into place. Buy the new seal first so you know how deep it goes and just how much of it you need to take out. The metal ring may not be part of the seal. The picture in the Helm manual is not that clear.

This was a self inflicted tear, so needless to say it's not a warranty issue. Thanks 'X' I'll get it try.

The seals are out (I'm going to replace them all). I actually came in from the top side of the valve cover with a taped flat head screw driver and tapped them out. Thanks, xviper you're are the S**T.

I'm glad to hear that the "patient" will survive the surgery.
