Spark Plugs
Hello people. Yesterday was a day off so i decided to refresh something on my 2002. It has 63k miles on it and i thought I'd change out the spark plugs not knowing if the previous owner changed them out at all or not (maybe they shouldn't have at all since the stock ones last up to "100k" miles). Anyway I decided to change them and as i got to them, i got to a problem.
The old ones would not come off! I tryed to unscrewing them but the effing things would not come off! Any suggestions on how to take them off?? Didnt want to push/pull too hard thinking I'd break something. Some people told me to try and put some WD 40 in there, but would this be ok to do?? Thx ahead.

I did it both cold (12h not running) and after a drive (hot). I'm using a T shaped tool from autozone. I think I'm going to try a socket and a ratchet (more leverage). The thing that scares me the most is the chance of the thread in the head to come right out with the spark plug. I used this T shaped tool on my other car and it worked just fine. -_-
ohhh that one.. hm. try socket. i think a 16 or 17mm will fit really well, but after you loosen it, use the t so it'll lift it up again. socket should work way better..make sure you torque it down good..never had the experience (knock on wood) but i read on the DIY and FAQ's about loose plugs fkkin things up. you should check up on the torque specs + get a torque wrench... supposedly the s2 plugs get loose if torqued wrong.

basically when you tighten a plug down, its 'welding' onto the head...not a real strong one, but it is 'welded' so its gonna take some force.

A quick hit is the best method, but y9ou also want tu use an actual spark plug socket. Another thing is not to put too much pressure to try and break it lose otherwise you sould break the spark plug and leave part of it in there which is never good. Just be careful.

You need to go pick up a proper spark plug socket, 5/8ths I believe, with a 6 inch extension and a ratchet. Ideally you should have a torque wrench so you can torque the plugs properly, but I guess over tightening them a bit won't hurt.
I don't know how you get spark plugs out of the head with no spark plug socket but if you put them in the head without one you might be damaging your plug gap. Make sure you check it before you install the plugs.

I've never torqued a spark plug in my life. It's one of those things where you just 'know' when enough is enough to me.
As mentioned, just make sure you keep that ratchet on there good. You don't want it to slip and either break the porcelain or strip the sides off the plug.
