Is the advertised 290HP on 91 octane bathwater? I wouldn't think so. JR recently has had trouble with their blowers killing motors that run 91- they were designed for 92 or 93. I could easily see how you would have issues knocking on 91 and having timing pulled out because of it. I don't think I would consider running leaner!

James, the xray machines they use a customs should inflict no damage on electronics. It is basically the same ones used in the airports that people put their cellphones, laptops, and stuff through.

Team Hybrid,
It's funny that you mentioned about 46mm Tial wastegate being too big for the speedcraft turbo kit. I was researching some of the parts that come with the kit and found that Tial suggested the 35mm wastegate and told me that the 46mm was for drag cars boosting well into the high teens and twenties. The 35mm wastegate is more than enough for a TC S2K. BTW, I heard Speedcraft is getting 300RWHP with the AEM EMS on 93 octane now. I spoke to Todd and he said they are working with AEM to work out the bugs on that system and almost have it perfected.

In my experience the 46mm wastegate has worked perfectly, I have never had a problem with boost creep and it's been very reliable. To only get 275hp at 8 pounds you would have to pull huge amounts of timing and run pretty conservatively, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess.. Tial is considered the industry's best wastegates so I am not sure what to say, I am going to guess ethier the spring was incorrect, or the wastegate was malfunctioning.

At 8 psi using the stock ignition and after extensive fuel tuning I got 324 @ 9000 at 10.2:1 compression on 92 octane, 13.1 AFR. EGT temps were just under 700 degrees celcius.

TH,
First, please be careful with the boost when running 91 octane! SC recommends only 6psi even when running 93, and 8psi only when running race gas.

Anyway, no clue as to your wastegate issues, but for reference here's cbender's final air-fuel tuning at 6psi:

It sounds like another tuning session is in order. Have you thought about The Race Shop in Marina del Rey or R&D Dyno in Gardena?

Cheers,
John

You're suggesting that he be pissed off because he bought a a kit and installed it in a manner outside of the specs that were suggested and got poor results??? Get real... I'm not trying to be a dick but I tried to save some headaches here but I was ignored. Why don't you ask Christopher or Chris (cbender or chrisd) what their VTEC is set at and what results they achieved. I dynoed at over 290 RWHP at 6 psi. I'm not guessing at the 6200 RPM VTEC engagement.... we figured that out after hours of tuning.

Team Hybrid,
Please e-mail me or post your dyno... I can tell quite a bit by the dyno... just ask cbender.

Being verrry un-informed.. It seems to ME, that the tuners have you running a bit rich for safety... Sure, u can gain more by running more lean...BUT, agiain, for a 20hp versus life of the motor and their experience, they are probably trying to cover your arse and theirs.

We all know you can get more, BUT-- do they have a point? 91 octain and that ratio/hp, is that the safety margin? Do they know? I don't... but I wonder if they are simply being on the safe side...not like 275 hp is something to sneeze at.

Totally uninformed,
Aaron
