Default Speedometer issue! please help!

Hi everyone,
I'm in a mess... i haven't been able to find previous threads on this issue yet so i was hoping you all might be able to help me out...

recently, i've just installed an axial flow short shifter. no issues with the shifter but two days after the install i've been getting bogus speed readings from my speedometer. what feels like 40-50 mph--reads out as 30's at times. there are times when the speedometer seems to read correctly but a lot of time reads completely off. when im in first, second or third gear the speedometer takes a long time to get up to what seems to be the correct speed. it eventually gets there but the speedometer's response to the throttle is VERY delayed. there are even times when the speedometer will jump from 40's to 50's, then back to 30's and back up again.

I've thought about just purchasing a new speed sensor and trying my luck there but im not sure if it'll be just an easy fix. also, installing the axial flow short shifter requires taking off the center console and without the center console plugged in will not allow the signal flashers to work and the roof will not retract. could the have caused my problem?

the car itself still drives fine and there doesn't seem to be any engine issues. i have 18 inch rims on and assumed that it was just caused from the tires being a little deflated after winter but pumped more air to the correct psi and still the same issue.

please, if anyone has encountered the same issue it would be really appreciated. or any suggestions to try would also help as well. thanks folks.

Not sure if you're 1st owner, but if not, did previous owner install yellow box (corrects speedo for changes in gearing)? That's the only thing that comes to mind. Sorry can't help you on where in the wiring harness it would install, but search is your friend on that one.

I have installed/reinstalled my axial flow numerous times (trying to calm the buzzing), yes the signals/roof are temporarily disabled, but everything always went back to normal after reconnecting the center consol. I doubt the install would have any effect, but you could check whatever wires pass through the hump (I thought it was just ABS...it's been a while).

I have an axial short shifter along with 4.77 gears. There is nothing that is in the center console that has anything to do with the speed. However, if you aren't the first owner of the car you may want to see if any previous owners installed a yellow jacket, or the speedo calibrator that Modifry sells. To do this simply pull the plastic trim piece where your hood release is and see if there is anything that is spliced in.
