Default Origin B2 differs from S2 speedo?

Hi all

I've just fitted an Origin B2 to my S2. It's superb (imho).

However....I've noticed that the B2 reads a fairly constant 3 mph lower than my S2 speedo. I realise the B2 has to calculate the velocity based on distance/time (and is therefore incorrect during accel/decel)...but this occurs when travelling at a constant velocity.

My concern is that it's the B2 which is reading low (rather than my S2 reading high!) which might result in it not alerting me if, for example, according to the B2 I'm doing 29/30 in a 30 zone (whereas I might actually be doing 33!).

I guess I'd rather the B2 to read on the high side, if anything!

The discrepancy seems fairly consistent at all speeds.

Anyone else noticed this or have any thoughts?

cheers
Mark

Yes your observations are right.

Origin is probably more accurate. Mine reads lower than the car speedo

There are various threads from a while back if you search

I agree with AE - but I have also noticed that the Speed shown on my Tom Tom is the same as the originb2. Despite the fact that they have to calculate at a constant speed they are probably more accurate than the speed on the car.

Yep my RA is also 3 mph slower. The S2000's speedo is very accurate IMO and only seems to read about 3-4% out. Glad you like your new toy

Compared to my B2, the S overreads by 3%, the missuses Focus by 7-8%, and a Beemer I occasionally drive is almost spot on (typical!)...bad news for beemer drives as that means they are more likely for a collar

I would be very surprised if, the Origin wasn't spot on...TBH I expected the car speedos to overread.

That's nothing my brother-in-law's Jaguar S Type overreads by 18% as measured by a Road Angel.

His speedo could actually read 35mph for him to be spot on 30mph, but then I guess the car is designed for your typical overweight businessman who's on his way back from a 3 hour business lunch and whose reactions might be a little dulled by excess food and drink

I've always been told that car speedo's are set slightly higher. Simply because it makes you slower than you think you are going, for safety reasons i guess.

In my focus i got a speeding ticket for 34mph in a 30. I was actually doing 37

Hey, thanks guys for the feedback - appreciated.

Strangely they were both reading 10mph as I slid down the (thankfully quiet village) road this morning at about 45deg to the white lines (and with loads of opposite lock on)....thanks to a darn good settling of the white stuff on the ground! Hehe. Shame I had to go to work really...could have happily spent all morning doing doughnuts in the pub car-park... ;-)
