Default Spoon Air Duct?

Any difference between the Spoon Air Duct and CAI's?

The air duct is simply a "snorkel" that brings ambient air to the OEM airbox, turning it into a Cold Air Intake. An aftermarket CAI replaces the OEM airbox entirely.
In terms of performance, you gain with the snorkel only by preventing hot air from being ingested. Most CAI's also double up as "performance" intakes but since the OEM airbox is already a pretty good performance intake already, aftermarket CAI's will show only modest gains in HP.

Thanks for your help in understanding. What I am reading from this is that Spoon has improved upon the factory cold air intake and therefore does about the same thing that the CAI does without making any radical changes.

The thing is, the factory intake turned out to be NOT a CAI and that's why the snorkel came into being. There is still one radical change in order to mount that thing. You either have to remove the slanted airguide entirely or cut a hole in it so the snorkel can go through it.

Not that radical. You can buy a new airguide if you go back to stock for about $30.

Reds2,

Do you have a snorkel? I wonder if Spoon has allowed for that? I have ordered one because Spoon is out of Japan and makes a lot of after market performance parts for Honda.

I don't think Spoon makes an airguide with the proper hole in it. It's easy enough to just cut the one you've got. Here's a little "How To" I wrote when I installed it on another ower's car:

BTW, you can get a number of different aftermarket clones for much less money.

Yep, there's even one from Australia sold by Muz that was originally designed by someone with a lot of experience with hot air.

i don't know but you might like this solution if you don't want to cut anything, plus it is pretty.

i forget what they sell for, but i have seen these in the fs forum from time to time.
