how did they tighten it? Did they tighten the big nut on the outside of the hub with the little cringe to it?

Yes, the big nut is refurred to as a spindle nut.

It may be a good idea to replace the nut's, and then torque them down. There are several threads that discuss this. Some folks have upped the torque on these nut's. Supposedly, Honda issued the new torque spec for these nut's, but I am still using the old torque spec and after 20k miles, have not had a problem.

Damn, I forgot to mention, it would be a good idea to grease the splines that spline into the hub. You have to separate the lower ball joint from the hub/knuckle assembly to do this. You would need a special tool to do this.

A Helm manual would also be helpful.

peace out

i think i'm gonna go take it to brakemasters tomorrow to have them take apart the rotor and resurface it and then have them tighten the big nut to see if the problem goes away.

If you take your car to someone to have them work on it, I would request that they grease the splines and torque it down with brand new nut's from Honda, and maybe up the torque a little bit from the original 181 ft lbs to around 200 ft lbs.

Make sure they put a little bit of grease on the part of the brand new nut that comes into contact with the hub.

i took it to the guys at the good year tire shop and they checked out everything. They even lubed up my brakes and inspected the rear end for a couple hours at no charge. what they found out was that my rear wheel bearing have worn out and needed change. I bought the bearing from honda for $90 with tax and a local mechanic will do the work tomorrow. Does $120 labor sound right for this type of job? He said it'll take about 2 hours for the one axle.
