SRS light back on after reset
Hi Everyone.
I recently had a replacement engine fitted and noticed my SRS light came on about a week or two later.
I’ve attempted the reset several times and although the light flashes twice to suggest the memory has been cleared it immediately comes back on again so it would seem to be there is a genuine fault with the system.
I am a bit hard up at the moment so I’d rather not take it to a Honda garage to get the fault code until I can afford it.
Can anyone suggest anything that could have been affected by the engine swap that might be worth checking in the meantime, wiring, plugs etc?
Any ideas would be a big help – having always had old cars I am pretty new to all these fancy electronic safety systems.

...Updating this because I hate finding topics with a problem and no solution.
So I fixed this last night - it turned out to be the SRS reel.
I diagnosed this by jumping the ODBII connector and getting the blink code for the SRS system – it turned out to be 1-1 open in drivers airbag.
I confirmed this by removing the airbag and testing both sides of the SRS reel spring connector with a multi-meter and found that one of two airbag wires was dead - it must have been damaged in the reel, odd that the horn still worked but oh well.
So picked up a replacement second hand SRS reel, removed the steering wheel using the 10oclock - 4oclock rock method (forget about using a puller), followed the workshop manual instructions – e.g. tightened the reel clockwise until it stops then unwind 2 ½ turns until the arrow points upwards (actually ends up being about 3 ¼ turns), fitted it, reset the SRS using a bit of solder wire and low and behold the SRS light went out and stayed out.
Hope this is useful to someone.
Cheers

To replace the engine, you need to lower the subframe. To do that, you need to disconnect the steering column.
The steering wheel was allowed to rotate out of time while it was disconnected. thats how the cable reel broke.

They seem to go for about £30 on eBay here though so not massively expensive.
Cheers for that Billman – I am thinking perhaps now that it might have just died a natural death as it hadn’t completely snapped – 2 of out of the 3 connections on it still worked and it seemed to be centred correctly. It could just have been a coincidence that is fatigued shortly after the engine swap but it is good to know you can break them this way.
SRS codes need to be written out. Can be done with a paper clip. The code stored in the SRS ECU needs to be reset. Once an SRS light goes on, it will never go off even if the fault is corrected. A manual reset (paperclip) must be performed.
Resetting the engine ECU will have no effect.

I have a 1-1 code on MY03. I took the steering wheel off a week ago to put a new leather cover on it that needed to be stitched over the steering wheel. Ever since I have had the SRS lights. I have reset the yellow clip underneath like 3 times and I get the two blinking lights that tell me I did it right but the SRS comes back on. I took the airbag out again and looked at the airbag contacts and everything looks okay. Does anyone know why the light would come on only after removing the airbag? The car has not been wrecked. Original airbags. Horn works, Cruise control works. I can't figure out what the problem is. Any help would be really appreciated!
