Default Start/stop button conversion

Has anyone converted the start button to a Start/Stop toggle function? Rather than re-inventing and starting from scratch. I searched the forum without success

With my other car and many others now using start/stop, I figure a conversion would help an inadvertent hit on the start button grinding the starter.

I didn't know inadvertent hits on the start button was a problem---honda put it low on the left side for a reason--it's hard to push it by mistake. Never heard of it being a problem in my 9 years on this forum.

But if you must change it, a momentary toggle switch (only completes the circuit when you hold the toggle up) would work in place of the button.

But why???

Nothing will happen if you just press it with the engine on. You have to hold the clutch pedal down before the button activates.

Good to know!!

Never knew that---guess In all these years I've never pushed it with the engine running to see what would happen!

Have you tried pushing it with the clutch down? I 99% sure when my brother drove mine and repeatedly hit the button to turn the car off he had his foot on the clutch.

Yes I have cranked the starter while going around 45mph. Just to see what would happen. Nothing happened besides a weird starter cranking sound, similar to when you crank it too long.

^ I always wondered that, thanks for being the guinea pig and getting that done! I pushed the start button on accident trying to change something on the radio; nothing happened because the clutch wasn't pushed in

All manual cars won't crank without the clutch depressed unless modified with remote start. I don't see the point of having the button as a stop button too since you still have to pull the key out.

Now what I want to know is how hard would it be to add Honda's new "Smart Key" system to the S.

The S should have been like that from the start.

IMO, start/stop is a bad design. I can't believe manufacturers are using it. The same button to stop? That you have to press and hold? What happens in an emergency, when driver panics?

Anyone hear of unintended acceleration? We already know how much difficulty paniced drivers with traditional ignition key switch have had with simply switching off while their car was out of control. Now we impose a delay, and use the same action for both tasks? That will only serve to cause more confusion, more difficulty for paniced drivers.

I would recommend disabling the clutch pedal switch for thrust bearing longevity. In this case, the start button will activate the starter while the engine is running.
