How did they test it? Usually a single click from the starter when you turn the key means the starter is bad. Multiple rapid clicks means the battery doesnt have enough juice, and you said that you had your jumper box on there too. I'm willing to bet that its the starter.

You are already checking the relay when you turn the key. If the starter clicks then the relay is good. The relay activates the starter.
Oh ok my bad lol I got my ideas backwards.

they hooked it up to their little starter test station and ran a diagnostic. it kicked out and spun up so they gave it the green light... is this test accurate? I most definately do not want to re-install this thing and have to take it out all over again. Is there any connections that can be tested to make sure that they are fine before I re-install the starter?

I got a couple questions as I am going to start tracing the wiring and trying to find a fault. As an inital test I was going to test the leads that attach to the starter and make sure power and enough of it is present at that point before I start working backwards and trying to find the problem. I took a pic of the starter I pulled and wanted to double check with you guys what I should be looking for in regards to the leads that attach to the back of the starter. In the pic the green circled A lug is where I assume the power enters the starter... so when the key is on and the start button is pushed the lead that connects here should show 12v... am I correct? The spade terminal that pushes on just above the bolted down power lug is marked with the red circle and the letter B. I am unsure of the purpose of this lead and therefore not sure what it should show when testing it with a volt meter or test light. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure your ground is on the starter very well... Mine started to unscrew after I swapped motors and it would do exacly that.. Click click click.. Cause of the bad connection it couldn't fully engage.. once I tighted and put a differ nut It turned over will ease... Goood luck..

Edit: i thought it was the ground but it may be power but its labeled as A in ur picture..

the starter pulls alot of current. at least 100amps if your battery is no good it wont be able to give that kind of current. things like your head lights dont pull nearly as much current as the starter so they are bad indicators of battery life. the same goes for measuring with a meter. you need to load test it. so just take the battery to autozone and have them test it.

I'll take the batt to autozone and have it tested... any help on what I am supposed to see at the leads that attach to the points highlighted on the starter? I'm going to put my volt meter on the leads and press the start button and I want to know what the "normal" reading or result should be... so I know where to start.
