Nice write-up. When I changed my clutch out two weeks ago I wish I would have known that I didn't need the top starter bolt back in, damn that was a total PITA to get out and back.

how/why do you know you need to replace the starter? (besides the obvious - that your car won't start)

are there symptoms of a bad starter, such as crunching noise when you start up the car?

i can't even find the top bolt.. how are you guys even finding it? i've removed the alternator, rad hose, shoved my head inside (i got a small head) and still can't find it. got the bottom one though.. yay. half way there.
