Default Steering Issue

Just wanted to get some feedback from the board...

The steering wheel seems to have a few degrees of play. It is almost like you can turn the wheel back and forth, while at speed, with out affecting the direction of the car. It is like you can "tap" the steering wheel back and forth.

It is extremely annoying wheel turning through a curve with a varying radius as you can not keep the steering wheel tight against the steering mechanism.

The weird thing is, it is not consistent, some days it is not there and there is no issue, except the steering does not feel as hard as it used to.

Thoughts???

Thanks for the feedback..

What work has been done to the car lately?

I'd check for a loose steering coupler, under the hood. By the AC compressor.

And if you decide to take the couplers apart, Make sure you center punch some timing marks so you can keep the wheel centered when putting it back together.

Billman, I was hoping you were lurking...

I have had custom built bottom end put in by my mechanic, so the entire engine bay has been swapped.
