Default Steering torque sensor

Hello, I just bought a used torque sensor with supposedly 80k miles on it and I have a couple of questions

1) should turning the rod inside feel a slight bit notchy or should it be completely smooth
2) should i clean it out and replace the grease since it hardly has any? if so, with what?

Thanks

It should be relatively smooth. The bearing on the shaft(rack side) takes grease and also the dust seal on the coupler side. You do not put grease past the dust seal. You spray some Deoxit in there to clean the sensor itself. Use general purpose grease, I like lithium paste, or the red Mobil 1 synthetic stuff.
