Default Steering Wheel Click

Hi All,

Im wondering if any of you could help me shed light on my clicking steering wheel problem.

Its a MY03 just hit 30,000km on the odo.

The issue:

About 2 weeks ago i drove my car to work (its my daily driver) and noticed that the steering wheel felt slightly heavier than usual, not to the point i couldn't turn the wheel but just felt noticeably heavier, there was no EPS light so i thought maybe it was my tires.

After adding some pressure the steering wheel still felt heavy. I thought maybe im just being paranoid about it and left it.

Last weekend I noticed whenever i am turning my steering wheel from left to right it starts to click, the sound of this click seems to be coming from right behind the steering wheel itself.

I have actually made two videos showing this problem and i hope someone on here can help me diagnose this issue soon. Im relatively new to my s2k, i've only had it for about 6 months.

I would appreciate anyone who can help me on this as i would like to rectify the problem before it gets any worse.

Sounds like a loose bolt. Try turning the wheel slower - does it make the same noise?

I cant seem to feel where the vibration is coming from.

There are two universal joints...the upper one may be causing that noise.

There is also a ball bearing in the steering column just behind the steering wheel. That can also make noise and make the wheel feel like it has some play in it.

thanks for the input, does this mean my steering column is damaged and requires service?

do i need to replace the bearings?

im going to take it to my local mechanic this weekend to look at, i just wanted to be able to goto him and advise him on what to look at.

I havent driven my car since i started hearing that noise incase i make it worse. I work long hours so hard to find time to go and see my mechanic.

I don't know that there is a way to rebuild the steering universal joint or replace the ball bearing assy in the wheel hub. Actually...just looked in the Helms and it says to replace the entire column if either are causing problems.
