The original production 4.57 Richmond gears sold thru Rick's were pretty staright cut - and loud.
His newer 4.56 is supposedly a little different.

Straight cut gears are a little different and are normally in reference to the transmission gears.
I want to know more about the dog gears available. Not all dog gears are necessarily straight cut, but it is often the case.

Actually they were a low helical cut.

I stand (or actually sit) corrected.

Well the dog gears are stronger, but they do come with a price.
You have to rev match as there is effectively no synchromesh. Shift improperly with one and the teeth will wear or worse chip. There is also the tendency for the gears to get stuck. Not saying all these things will happen, but the reliability is sacrificed.
I hope the Aussies have sorted it out for us.

Thanks sideways. Still wondering if someone actually figured this out or not. I will check for ATS and see if I find anything.
