Default STRANDED !

I'm stranded right now somewhere between NYC and Canada....I did some research and it seems as though a seal between the engine and tranny is leaking fluid. As for the tranny fluid, I know Honda MTF is recommended but are there any other temporary options I can use in case the local shops don't have any on hand? Thanks for the help everyone.

You can put regular oil in the tranny until you get Honda MTF

Well there is no fluid that runs between the tranny and the engine. If fluid is running out there it is either tranny fluid coming from the seal around the main shaft of the tranny, or it is oil coming from the seal around the main shaft of the engine (behind the flywheel). My guess and hope would be that the seal of the tranny has gone bad (your description of the fluid supports this).

If this is the case it is going to be hard to add fluid to the tranny on the fly. The bolt is a 17mm socket and you really need to be able to get under the car and pump the fluid up into the tranny, which is going to be really tricky. It would be best to get Honda MTF, but in an emergency situation any 75w gear oil will work.

If you are able to add fluid shift easy because your clutch and flywheel is likely covered in fluid. To fix it you will need to remove the tranny, when you do so change the clutch and resurface the flywheel (or atleast clean it well with brake clean).

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I went to a Honda dealership and they confirmed it was tranny oil and a seal was broken. Filled it up with Honda MTF this morning after a long night of wandering around.
