I never noticed it before...but when I started my s2k this morning...there was a humming noise that was coming into the cabin. when i pushed down on the clutch..the humming went away. when i released the clutch...the humming came back. i have a 2002 AP1 with 34xxx miles...

not to jack this thread or anything but i noticed a noise that sounded like a hum or a tick, similar to the valve noise that is present when the hood is open. it sounds like it is coming from under the dash on the driver side, becomes audible at around 3k rpm, and gets drowned out by engine noise at about 5k, i have a 2002 with 40k miles, stock perf. wise other than an AUT radiatior panel.

where does your noise originate from f23?

Not likely.
The "clutch buzz" happens on deceleration in gear while driving.

sounds like throw out bearing although I don't think I would really describe it as a hum, more like a whinestle (whine/whistle) Its normal for the tranny to make a quiet noise while spinning in neutral.

well i hear a distinct series of noises that get louder/faster through the rpm range till the engine gets too loud to hear it, so i guess its a tick?

I'd guess it's just the transmission spinning in nuetral as mention already. When you push in the clutch it stops spinning, let it out and it spins. If you raise the RPM slightly with the clutch out you should be able to hear it change in speed.
