Default strange noise help plz

the car has a strange noise that seams to be coming from the back driver side tire area. it is a high pitched whinning/pulsing noise that happens when the car is rolling forward and back. at first i thought it was the brake because the noise seemed to come when i was breaking but would come with it just slowing down with no pressure on the brake pedal.

the noise also happens when the wheel turns to a cer tain point. for example i used the valve stem as a reference. the wheel would make almost a complete rotation with the valve stem coming back to its starting position when the noise would occur. if i were to move the car forward or back just a little so the tire wouldnt make a complete rotation the noise does not sound.

does anyone know and remedies for this. if i can i would like to fix it myself rather than spend a lot of money to get it diagnosed only to find it was a simple diy.

thanks in advanced

do you know what it sounds like when you need new brakes?
does it sound like metal scraping?

i know the sound when its time for the new breaks. there is no chirpping or metal against metal grinding. the sound also comes about even when the breaks are not being pressed.

it sounds as if something is being dragged under the car but when i jacked it up there was nothing under it. also no signs of any fluids leaking.

if there is too much play in the wheel you probably need a new wheel bearing.
remove the brake rotor and turn the axle and see if it still makes the noise. try to source the sound. if its coming from where the bearing is,Then check out the bearings. I really don't know for sure.

It's the bearings, I had to have mine replaced 3 days after I bought my S...

Apparently I don't know the difference between brake noise and bearing noise

ok a little update on the car. took it to a friends house at 4 in the morning to put it up on some jack stands. we spun the two rear tires and didnt here any scraping noises. does the differential make noise when you spin the wheels? it kind of sounds like a whirling noise. didnt get a chance to actually take the wheels off didnt have the lug keys for them

on the way back we did a brake test. drove the car up to about 35mph and stepped the brakes hard. tires screeched and the car came to a nice complete stop fairly quickly. the noise however seemed to get louder and more frequent. noise seems to come from 1mph to about 35mph. there still maybe noise but with the engine and the wind could hear nothing. after the test we came to the conclusion that possibly the wheel bearing or the brakes were no good.

i had my friend drive me home that night and on the way home he hopped the curb trying to prevent from scratching my lip the sound however seemed to go away after driving over some bumpy pot hole filled roads (hawaii roads suck) the sound seemed to come back we tried slowing the car using gears rather than breaks and the sound was still there. with careful listening it seems that the noise comes when going from a dead stop, slowing down, turning, and when bumping on the road. could this possibly be a suspension problem?

i am dropped on h&r springs with stock shocks. could the shocks be blown causing something to rub or creak? the drop is not too bad i think. 1.5 inches at the max but the car does have very stiff suspension.

any ideas will be much appreciated before taking to a shop.

Your describing my exact situation.
What's happening is that the bearings are not moving and cooling like they should so they are heating up and expanding causing the noise. That's why the noise progressively gets worse. When I road around with the car tech it took a good 20 minutes for them to heat up and make noise again. Get them checked out it's not cheap. My whole left side hub had to be replaced along with the right side bearings.
Good luck it's not cheap
