STRIPPED oil pan
i know this topic has been discussed to death. However, the consensus seems to be "replace the oil pan." So i am wondering why can't we just get a self tapping bolt from an autopart story and put it on?
I didnt strip the pan btw. the previous owner took it to her local HONDA dealership and they stripped it. Their remedy is a slightly larger bolt with a rubber o-ring. If a Honda dealership can't even change the oil wthout strippping the freaking oil pan, then how am i suppose to trust them working on anything else??? How incompetent do you have to be??? Sorry, im still very upset about the ordeal. Wasted half of my sunday and 5 quarts of good mobile 1 stuff.

Self tapping is the way to go. I've done it, I've seen it and can confirm it works.
How did you waste oil if the stripped hole was remedied with a larger bolt and a rubber washer? Sounds like it would have held your oil just fine until you were ready to replace the pan or tap it?
this is my first oil change with the car and i thought the plug would hold. So i changed the oil and plug their plug back in, turn on the car, back it out to the drive way to clean the garage, put the car back in the garage and found a smal puddle of oil on the driveway.
So now that i have to re-tap it with another bolt, i obviously have to take the bolt out and drain the oil. My guess is they tapped it already but did not use the correct bolt.

Kinda off topic but to prevent stripping, I got a fumoto valve to change my oil. There were some pros and cons, I personally think it's great. The biggest con was that some folks overtorqued it and snapped the valve.

good news guys, i went to the local autopart store and got myself a 14mm 1.5 pitch self tapping bolt and put it on. It is as tight as the oem plug. Going to torque it and let you know how it goes. Checking the helms for torque spec as i type.
i was only comfortably torquing it to 20-21 lbs-ft, but that should be enough. took the drain plug back out, flushed the engine with 2 quarts of oil to get all the shavings out. After that i poked a magnetic probe into the hole and moved it around to get the remainder of the metal pieces. I should be good to go, will keep you all updated.
