Stripped Screw
I'm trying to replace my rotors and one of the phillips head screws is severely stripped. my bit can't get a grip on it. Can anyone teach me how to drill it out or is there another solution? I'm going to Sears right now for some advice but hopefully someone will have posted by the time I get back.
How'd that happen? Use some WD-40, Liquid wrench, etc..let it soak a bit. Get an Impact Screw driver and hit the driver like you mean it. I removed 10yr old rusted out rotor screws that way...I think your only option at this point is to drill it out. Good luck.
what's a center punch?
I used some lube on the screw to no avail. the screw-out bit (sold individually) at Sears was $8, but it won't fit my impact wrench. i have a cordless drill/driver but it's only 7.5V. Think that'd be enough for a drill-out?
I've never drilled out a screw before, so pardon the elementary questions. Do I need to literally drill the entire screw out of existence, or just drill into it and pull it out. Will I damage the hub that the rotor is attached to? Will I need to re-thread it?

Get a punch with a pointed end ( sharp point) and a hammer.
Position the point near the edge of the head of the fastener and give it a few whacks so the punch tip sits in a dimple. Now angle the punch so when you hit it there will be a turning torque on the fastener and whack away. If the edge of the fastener breaks away move to a new area and repeat.
The shock load of the hammering will help loosen the fastener. You will need another fastener, or just leave it out. It doenst do much anyway.
Good luck and wear eye protection.

If you use enough finesse with the drill you can drill the head and get the rest of the screw out. As stated they are useless for the most part. No structural use anyway. Just makes it a little easier when doing a brake job otherwise the lug nuts serve the same basic purpose once the wheel is on
Use this... but put the screw out on it. hit lightly first to let the tap grab some metal... Then beat that shiet like you just got raped... Prelube of course.

Oh yeah try to heat up the screw also.

just drill it out, you'll end up spending less time on it.
next time just buy a impact driver from autozone, it's 20 bucks and most import use those type of countersunked screw for rotor.
plus you can use it for the big screw for the striker
