Default Stripping Chrome Plating?

I just recently came across a set of AP2 V1's that are very very cheaply chrome plated. I got an excellent deal on the rims so I couldn't say no. Now my question is what options do I have as far as stripping the chrome? One wheel was already stripped using aircraft stripper and then sand blasted but it looks like the stripping chemical might have affected the actual rim. I was thinking of taking it to a shop that could do some kind of a soaking process to strip them but if there is a way for me to do it at home and get good results I would prefer that.
