Default Struggling to get coilovers to fit! Help!

Hi hope I'm in the right section for this post apologies if I'm not.

i have a 2001 ap1 and I'm having trouble fitting my front drivers side coilover, the bottom cup that holds the spring seems to be in the way of the control arm, I can wind the spring up higher but I'm not sure if it should be sitting the way it is in the first place, it's like the coilover is sitting slightly to the right of the control arm, maybe something is bent? I have attached pictures of the standard shock and the coilover fitted for reference, any advice is much appreciated if this is normal then I will wind the spring up and carry on!

thanks!

is the arm bent or something? That doesn't look right.

either front/rear is mixed up (longer ones go in front) or you are just trying to run your height too low and need to raise the perches up higher.

Holy corrosion city Batman! Id lean towards a bent control arm. There is so much deterioration on those I wouldn't be surprised if your getting metal fatigue at this point.

You must not live in a rust belt area. That is nothing. Plenty of worse normal cars on the road.

Now, an S shouldn't be driven in winter in these areas so it doesn't get like that. Just not worth it. 3 months of the year putting 95% of the deterioration on the car. Better to drive it 3 seasons.

But that rust isn't going to cause ca failure or anything.

Yeah I live in WA/West coast. That just looks horrid! I wouldn't never subject my S to those kind of conditions. Winter beater holds a whole new level of meaning.

Thanks guys! I guess the control arm is bent or is there any other part more likely for it to be?
