Default stuck throttle or idling problem

JESUS!!!

the scariest experience EVER...i was just driving my s and it just kept accelerating even when i left off the throttle. Had to kill the engine and coast to a stop. I restarted the car and it idled at around 3500 RPM even though the car was running for a while...it eventually settled down to about 1500 and i tried to get it home to my garage....i made it, but barely...it was a struggle. If anyone has any ideas as to what is wrong, please chime in, otherwise, it looks like its off to the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks

Matt

This has happened to my Civic SI before, I think what happens is the throttle body gets stuck somehow??? What I have done is put the car in gear and then press the brakes to force the engine below 3500 rpm, and that seemed to reset something..

What do I know? heh heh

thats actually how i got the car to calm down, i forced it to lower the revs by pressing the brakes. Do you remember how you fixed that problem? Or is it worth a trip to the dealer?

Thanks

Pop the hood and make sure the TB is actually closing!...........and is free moving now. Might have gotten stuck open.

I had a similar experience when I had a GSR a few years ago. One day, backing out of a parking space, the throttle stuck. I quickly pressed the clutch and the engine revved to almost 7500 (not happy on a cold engine). I mashed the accelerator a few times, and it came free and everything was fine (besides me needing to change my shorts ). I drove that car for 3 more years and never had another episode.

Check for obstructions around the throttle cable assembly and check the throttle body spindle for flat spots (had this happen with two different throttle bodies on an ex's Ford...first time it kept sticking open, second time it refused to open beyond a certain amount).

i will inspect that when i get home as well as remove my cai and inspect the opening of the throttle body itself.

Check to see if you have a popcorn stuck inside. Maybe a popcorn was left in the piping.
