If the oil level was low enough and you were cornering hard enough, it is possible that there was a momentary loss of oil pressure, causing VTEC to disengage. Note that at the same moment in time, the rest of the engine also saw a drop in oil pressure, which is not to say that damage resulted, but it's certainly not a good thing.
I know some of the F20C's regularly use a quart in 3k miles (or less), but don't know if that's also the case with the F22C.
With a high reving engine like this it is wise to check the oil at every gas stop, even if the car never uses a drop. Merphy will insure that if you become complacent, the car will start using oil, just to spite you.

Vtec won't kick in unless several conditions are met. Low oil pressure and/or a cold engine will result in a harsh cutout at the vtec engagement point. The first time it happened to me, I thought my clutch had let go. It was clearly the rev limiter kicking in though.

Hopefully my newly installed Krank Vents will cut oil consumption.

Reading the posts above my first thought was....cold motor. The OP (and one other with same situation) have not answered that one yet.
The bottom "x" on the dipstick isn't a low enough level to starve VTEC function. More like the bottom of the dipdtick itself (or 2 qts+ low) will do it. Also I don't think he was on a curve......in 3rd.....in VTEC.....on an onramp. VTEC in third is what, like 90mph? The way I read it, he must have been going straight by then, making it less likely to starve VTEC.

Dont forget if you stay in VTEC for a long time, you will burn oil faster than you would if you chill and just drive normal you wont get that much consupmtion.......
I hope you know that..
So if you are a redliner then check your oil everyday .....

If Billman says this had nothing to do with the oil level, then it is a safe bet that it doesn't have anything to do with the oil level.
The frequency with which I VTEC (and the duration) don't seem to affect my oil consumption much (much less than 1 quart between my 3,000 mile change intervals), and my mechanic thinks it's because the car is VTECed so frequently. Maybe VTEC after a long enough period of non-VTEC operation the car gulps a little oil when VTEC is used???
Seems to vary a lot from car to car and owner to owner.
