Default Sudden loss of power when vtec hits

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it supposed to do this?

I have searched and read about the maf sensor wack, etc.. I actually just got my MAF sensor repalced to the new model to solve this problem. It still does it if I am less than three bars on the temp gage. Once the car is warm, it does not do it.

If I accelerate hard when its cold, once vtec kicks in it immediately looses power and makes a large noise.. sounds like intake burble. It feels like it may be a safety cutout thing for the engine, and I know I'm not supposed to accelerate hard when its cold, but sometimes I need to - onramp or whatever. It is pretty dangerous to lose power like that if I am in a hard corner!

My only mod is the K&N FIPK, but I am pretty sure it was doing this before I put that on.

Can anyone explain?!

from what I understand you are not suppose to hit vtec before the 3 bars, i think you can even get away with it at 2 bars but not sure.

You hit it on the nose when you said its a safety cutout thing, and that your not supposed to to accelerate hard when its cold. Many new owners run into this problem, but now that you know dont do it

Why would anyone want to VTEC or run their s2k hard when it is cold? There is probably nothing worse that you can do to this car than try to go WOT when the engine, transmission and gear box are cold, not to mention the tires being to cold to give good traction. I guess that's why Honda installed the 3 bar safety feature for people who just don't know any better. Let everything on the s2k (and yourself)get up to normal operating temperatures before letting her rip!

Tomorrow morning when you wake-up, run up four flights of steps right away.
