It's only the intake side that has a "problem".
If you swap to the heavier retainers on the exhaust side the only thing you really do is lower the valve float point.

Yes, i read this often, but where is the data, math and proof of it?
And i know that every little bit of weight added to a valve / spring can be critical in a high reving engine.

Well you got a set of the updated retainers? You should weigh them and then weigh the stock ones to compare.
No other way to tell for sure if all of the s2ki members are lying or not
I read somewhere it was a 2g difference but I'm not sure at all.

Search the site, read the forums.

They raise the retainer split RPM (9700) over the valve contact RPM (10700)

The engine will be able to withstand a higher money shift.

Hit 10k in a stock AP1, split the retainers.

hit 10k in an AP1 with AP2 retainers, you will not split the retainers.

And there's a clusterduck huge thread here -- read all of it. Try to ignore the people who only want to argue semantics and play devils advocate, and try to separate out the facts from opinions on your own:

@ Flanders: Thanks, but i was allready aware about the problem of weight in a valvetrain vs. RPM. And i was aware that AP2 Retaienrs are "beefed up", making them heavier.

@ HarryD: Thanks, i will take my time and read this!

They are called AP2 retainers because this is an american forum with american users for the most part, but that doesn't mean that the AP1s that left the assembly line at Suzuka kept the lighter retainers. Did Honda screw us by putting sixteen 14765-PRB-A01 retainers instead of just upgrading the intake side? They recalled the oil jet bolts, would they risk it?

By the way, that is also the reference for the EP3 and FN2 retainers (7th and 8th gen Civic Type Rs), which, like AP2s, could only dream of a warrantied 9k limiter.

I think this is a valid point. 2004-2009 AP1s utilised the updated retainers. Having said that I think Billman's advice should hold a lot of weight given his knowledge.

Actually they're called AP2 Retainers as they're the OEM part on the the F22C1 engine identified by by the Engine/Chassis Code AP2 in the 2004+ North American and 2006+ Japanese marketed cars.

AP2 just rolls off the tongue easier than F22C1.

but not unique to AP2s so I think it's just a common term that's stuck
