Default Swapping Gauge Clusters

I've had to swap my original gauge cluster out for a new one that came from a junker s2k. I did my best to find one with "similar" mileage (within 10k miles), and am trying to find out if I have to record this with the department of licensing or something like that? The car has been down, and un-registered for the past 4 years, and I no longer have the original ECU either.

Appreciate the help guys!

No one but you needs to know about either of those parts swaps.

High 5 for trying to be honest, but not aware of any law that says you need to inform anyone of what work you have done to the car! I'm sure you will never sell your S anyways, so what difference does it make! LOL

many states have you attest that the mileage shown on the odometer is either correct or incorrect when you sell the car--the mileage attestation from the seller is part of the title paperwork process the buyer goes through.

so unless or until you sell your car, it doesn't matter.

In NC if the car is more than 10 years old, they dont care about the odometer reading at all.

if the mileage on the new cluster is higher by 10k you're fine. however if it is lower by 10kmi and you plan to sell the car that is odometer fraud and is illegal. if you keep the car it doesn't matter

in many states it's fraud only if the higher mileage is not disclosed at the time of the sale---don't know of any where it's fraud to just change the odometer cluster

Good info, thanks everybody. It was the fraud thing I was worried about when I go to register it again, but it sounds like thats only an issue if I wanna sell it, WHICH I WILL NEVER DO!

I assume you mean until he sells the car, right?
