Default switching oils

well for what I have known the car has been running Hondas semi senthetic oil for its entire life 50k miles. (i got the car 10k miles ago when it had 40k and i have put the honda semi senthetic in it). Well after been through 2 honda dealerships, one that tried to charge 80 bucks per oil change, and another which forgot to tighten my diff drain bolt after changing my diff fluid, im going to do my oil changes.

my question is should i continue to buy the honda semi senthetic or should i switch to a full senthetic or just to a plain oil??

if yall think i should switch which brand should i go with? I know Mobil 1 makes the OEM honda oil, but i have never seen it in a semi senthetic, only a full senthetic or regular.

Also is there anything extra I need to do if i change to a different oil type?? thanks guys!!

way back in the day i was a hardcore mobile1 user but now i just go with whatever, just changing out sooner, with both of my cars supercharged before, the oil got trashed really quick, so it was better for me to just change it frequently, but if you don't plan on doing it for 5,000 miles then i'd use the expensive/synthetic oil...

depends what you use it for..and the condition of the motor

it's all guess work before you do a oil test really.

it seem most of the dino oil can survive a longer interval now vs dino oil back in the day, 5000 is not uncommon unless you track your car.

<--valvoline maxlife syn blend for all the high mileage car in the family including the S @ 135k

I always thought the Honda oil was just rebranded Mobil Clean 5000, which is not a synthetic blend. I'm fairly sure its not Mobil 1.

From what I hear, Mobil 1 is just too thin for the s2k, especially the ap1. Mobil 1 5w30 also has a tendency to shear to a 20 weight after a while.

I'd use Redline or Amsoil synthetic. No need to do anything special when switching oils. You could pick up a Fumoto js2k too

<----Redline here. I use it for the motor and the tranny. Great stuff.

there is nothing special about Honda oil, and the term semisynthetic means just about anything these days. In my books there is only 100% synthetic or non-synthetic oil, everything else in between is just marketing. Run a good quality oil of your choice, you don't have to do anything on the change. good luck.

I use Moble1 but thinking of switching to AMSOIL. I used AMSOIL in my trans and it made a major difference. Also Puddydaddy has a good AMSOIL/Lucas ratio for the diff.

Only use reputable Honda dealerships, not all are created equal. Check your local threads for the good and the bad. I know Jon Hall is good in Daytona but Brandon Honda on the west coast of FL has a bad rep with low customer service for S200 owners.
