Default Syncromesh... a layman's experience

I don't consider myself a grease monkey.... I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

I have been searching for the Pennzoil Syncromesh locally and couldn't find it my local Autozone. I was in the next town over today and decided to stop.... low and behold 2 bottles of Pennzoil Syncromesh for $4.99 a bottle and they had two!

So I swiped them up and then drove to Tire Kingdom. $16.95 later I now have it in my transmission.

Let me define something for you right quick:

notchiness = feeling the "gears" in the gearshift and having to use a little more force than normal to put it in gear. IE: resistance

clunkiness = HEARING noises from the transmission during the shifting process.

I can tell you that the notchiness is still there just half as bad. The best part though is that the clunkiness is all gone.

I don't know if I would have gotten the same results with just Honda MTF. What I can attest to is that for $30 (includes oil and change) I am pleased with the results. I don't track my car... yet I am just sharing my 2 coppers worth. Since this is so cheap I plan on doing this change every other oil change.

Sounds like a worthwhile thing to do.

I just added a counter sunk shift knob. It helped take care of a little more of the notchiness. I think the knob insulates the notchniness feel a little better.

I am very happy with the way my car shift now.

See how long it lasts. I got the same results with the Honda MTF, but lasted a month or so. I found 2 bottles of the Pennzoil stuff in an Autozone at RIDGECREST CA (if California ever needed an enema, it would be given at Ridgecrest).

Ridgecrest is HIGHER than Camarillo, and you know what flows downhill.....

I used the Synchromesh for a couple tranny fluid changes, and found that it started to cheese out afer only 3K miles. My last change was with Redline MT-90, and it is lasting longer. It isn't as smooth as Synchromesh in the cold, but it is awesome warm.
