I noticed the owners manual seems to be against using oil additives....curious! I've always used "Mobile 1" in all my sports cars and I'm a fan of using "Militec" additive in any combustion engine. Any comments on engine longevity?

I read some more materials on the synthetic issue...

I made the mistake of changing my oil around 3500 miles and used Mobil 1 as the replacement. I hadn't learned about the recommended 5000-7000 mile breakin period. Actually, I read a FAQ as s2ki.com that said anything over 3000 was ok. Now the car doesn't torque quite the same at the VTEC barrier. It doesn't appear to be a map sensor issue either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated...I don't know that changing back to Dino not would do a lot of good if the rings weren't properly seated during the original breakin period??

My wife drives a '93 legend with 140,000 mi on the clock. It has been on a diet of Mobil 1 since 5,000 miles. It does not use a drop between changes. I have changed the oil in it every 5,000.

I raced a Honda Civic IT car in SCCA for 9 years and used Mobil 1 with no failures; 280 degree oil temps were common. I'm sold.

I too changed my oil to Mobil 1 at about 3500 miles. I'm now at 10k (2 oil changes later) without any problems. The car still goes like heck and doesn't use a drop.

I've been using mobil one since I think it was 6k. I'm almost at 19k now and I get 240 psi across all 4 cylinders, so my compression is great. Haven't done a leakdown test yet, but I suspect all is well. I do burn some oil under hard driving though - which is normal. You usually suck a little into the intake through pcv under hard cornering.

Not that it matters, but I have been using mobil one in my 430hp Audi S4 since 2500 miles and it doesn't use any oil. In a car that has been known to burn a little oil, I would say that is good. Audi has a recomended service interval at 7500 miles, I cahnged mine at 2500 and did not notice a difference in power. I too am sold on Mobil one. While on the subject, has anyone heard anythin about Redline, or Royal Purple, both are reported to be great, and Redline is all my motocycle mechanic uses (in my bike now, but bikes are different, looking for those that have used it in their car)

Would it be at all beneficial to use a synthetic gear grease in the S2000? As you can tell, I'm not a mechanic... I just read more material here suggesting that transmissions benefit from synthetics too...
