i purchased my TCT at my first Dragon trip from Billman250- 40K miles, AP1, and was having no issues. I just thought it was a good maintenance item to take care of.

Contact Billman250- I can vouch for his product. I have not tried others and can't comment.

Replace it any time you like! A 10 minute job. I replaced my OEM TCT with the Billman Gex-X unit at about 40K miles just as preventive maintenance.

If a car has no symptoms, does it make sense to swap this out? I have an 03 with 130k km, so about 80k ish miles.

it makes sense if you never want to hear the tct rattle.

it also makes sense if you have the motivation to change it now, but feel like in the future you might have less motivation to do so.

it also makes sense if you think the price of the tct will be lower today than it will be in the future.

it also makes sense if you think billman is more inclined to help you out over the phone now than he will be in the future.

Is there anyone that has had long term success with sandblasting the worm gear (5+ years)?

In this thread there are only posts from people who have had short term success (or never report back after their initial post).

I've not seen any posts that indicate sandblasting (etc.) is more than a short term fix.

We all know what the permanent solution is: Billman's TCT.

Well, fwiw I did this about nine years ago and my sandblasted TCT is still going along fine, but in 2019, I'd just buy a Billman TCT and swap it in. It is easier and probably has better quality control, as I think some people don't sandblast enough to last?

You can't measure this with time. Some people drive their cars every day, others just a couple times a month or a couple times per year.

Mileage and type of use can be the only measurement.
