Can someone describe the sound they heard from a bad TCT? I have a loud tick, its irregular, goes away with rpm's above 3000, and i hear it in the front of the motor. My bottom end also has low compression (140psi), cyclinder head is brand new and valve adjustment was just done perfectly. Does this sound like a bad TCT? there is a good chance my bottom end has a lot of miles on it.

Search around on youtube and you'll find some more vids where the rattle is really loud, sounds like it knocking against a metal wall.

That video is useless. There is no TCT noise before or after.

over the weekend I tried to repair it, took it to my shop and sandblasted it, cleaned it all up and reinstalled it. It was working great for about an hour then went back to ticking away...
Ordered an new one that will be here on tuesday.

Another note, can a bad TCT create other valve train noise? It seems to have progressed to somewhat of a rattle at random moments when the engine is underload.

I cant tell from that video too well but to me that sounds more like a piston slap, or valve tick not a TCT

So here is the deal. I let my cousin work on my car, and he "replaced the gasket on the VTEC Solinoid and fixed my oil leak". He also pulled out my tct not knowing what it was, the spring shot out and he lost it, and THAT is my issue. The large spring in the TCT was MISSING. It sounded like this last video, but actually got much louder since I posted this. So having never taken apart the TCT i found a picture online of all the parts and realized I'm missing the spring. I plan on just replacing it though.

You will be disappointed... eventually... again. It may last a while or it may last 2 days. Eventually, the new one will also start to fail.

I am normally not in the advice giving realm but I suggest returning that one and getting one from Billman.

Source: I did exactly what you're about to do; 2 years ago. I ended up getting one from Billman.

I was in a pinch to get it fixed, so I just ordered one while i wait on a quote from Billman250. If he can id like to send the old one and have it refurbished.
Im also chasing what seems to be a valve train chatter or piston slap and wanted to eliminate one thing at a time.
TCT tomorrow night, Ill set all the valves on Saturday and if the problem persists my hands are in the air....

That's exactly what I did. I ended up sending him my 2nd one later on as well. Good luck with your chatter. I hope you get it resolved soon.
