Temp reading
Hey guys, do any of you know which sensor reads the temperature of the car that shows up in the cluster or anything similar to it? The S only shows 1 bar no matter how long the car is driven. It never goes up or down just at 1 bar. This car is going to become my daily and I would like it to be as reliable as possible. Thanks in advance for any input and sorry if this is a re-post. I just didn't know what to put into the search bar as I tried before but came up with random stuff.
if you were looking at the intake manifold from the drivers side.....it is on the far right below the plenum. it is difficult to get to though. it doesnt hurt anything though. and it wont put your car in limp mode either. pm me for my phone number if you want some more help.
good luck.

OP - where do you live and what is the average temp there right now? It is COLD everywhere in the US but even still, the car should still get up to temp after a few minutes.
spectacle- i live in southern california. the temp has been around 50-75 out
s2000maniac- my fans turn on at im assuming when it is over the operating temp but ill check on that
thanks for the replies

Whoa there cowboy...water temp readings affect more than a few fuel and ignition compensation tables in the ECU. Wouldn't say it won't hurt anything if something is wrong. Especially since optimum operating temp is 190 degrees and in the AP1, one bar only represents a max of 131 degrees.

I only know this as fact, i just replaced mine for the same reason. it was a single broken wire that lead to the gauge. i checked it with an continuity meter, found it, fixed it. works perfectly now after fixing it. i also have an AP2....i dont think this matters though.
sorry for the confusion.

Even though the car is 10 years old, I'll bet the thermostat is fine. The cooling system in the s2k, due to creative grounding, stays very clean.
First thing you should do is plug in an OBD2 scanner that reads data, and see what the actual reading is of the CTS (coolant temp sensor) is.

hey osidis if i took some pic would you be able to point it out? im more of a visual learner. it would be greatly appreciated. thanks
would i still be able to read the temp if it doesnt show up on the cluster if so i wanted to just get a ScanGauge and call it a day

The CTS Billman mentioned is #2
Thermostat #7
Do the radiator hoses get hot after a while?
Do they also feel firm when they're hot, IOW is there pressure in the coolant system?
Do you get heat into the interior?
Does the engine go into VTEC above ~ 6000 rpm?
Does the engine rev above 6000 rpm at all?
As far as I know an OBDII reader will show what the ECU detects, not what the cluster will display (if there is a difference between them).
