Default test pipe

does anyone know if a test pipe such as j's test pipe will pass emissions? J's test pipe has a spot for the o2 sensor but will there be any problems like code problems or emission problems? I am thinking of getting a test pipe just wanting to know of any problems first. your help would be great.

Well, if they do a visual you won't pass.

I doubt it would be possible for a test pipe to pass a test. Supposedly, the absense of the catalytic converter increases emissions by 30X or something.

How does an S2000 sound without a cat? I bet it is quite a bit louder. I know there was a night and day difference when I got and off road x-pipe for my Mustang. But louder isn't always better, especially on a four cylinder (just my opinion).

It doesn't sound very different with the OEM exhaust, just a tad louder. I am sure it would be a lot louder with an aftermarket exhaust.

Emissions in Texas on late model cars is done by testing for normal operation of the OBD2 systems, not by sniffing the exhaust or visual inspection. If you can avoid throwing codes you can use the test pipe.

Really? So all these places that had to buy those expensive dyno-like machines only need them for pre-'96 cars?!

Jeesh. It would still be pretty scary to drive into an inspection station with a test pipe, considering the penalty IF they did a visual.

I think the penalty is $10k here in NYC for a test pip. Just swap it out it take 30mins tops.
