Yes, you will throw a code with a test pipe. I have been using mine for almost a year now, and the only bad thing it has caused is a CEL, although that doesn't bother me.

It's been hit or miss everytime someone has tried the 02 elminiator. Some people have gotten it to work, others haven't or have and then the light came on after awhile.

The 5-wire RISC based simulator has worked for everyone I know. It is the 3-wire 555-timer based units that are hit or miss.

i work at a honda dealership and the inspection/emission guy definately does not go under the car and look for a cat. if the exhaust readings are ok and there is no CEL, then you'll pass. there is no visual(this is in va btw).

but most dealerships should follow the same type of rules. obviuosly if you compare major dealerships to private owned gas stations, then you will definately see differences.
