I thought I saw a thread a while ago where people talked about how they adjusted their Comptech bar.

Does anyone know where that thread is? Or have any tips on adjusting the bar?

I may just not be mechanically inclined but I can't figure out how to get the pin into some of positions, say the stiffest. Is there any way other than reaching in from the top?

Since it's basically a racing bar, your first choice should be the Racing and Competition forum. A number of us are using the bar.

I have no problem getting the bolt in the stiffest setting (5th position). The bolt goes in from the bottom with ease.
