The best way I can describe the sound is a low, deep hum similar to the 350Z. This is not loud at all , at low rpm's you get the low hum but high rpm's it sounds like stock. It gives you a little extra sound but it's minimal and in no way like a loud annoying fart can or bees in a basket drone. Great mod at a great price.

i had been thinking of doing this for a while. i just can't justify $1,000+ for cat back exhaust systems like Amuse, Spoon, Mugen etc etc.

so it was only like $20 bucks eh? crush bent piping i assume? or is it literally a straight pipe from the cat to the rear of the car?

thanks

I don't think it's quite as loud as the 350Z but definately a similar tone especially at lower rpm's. People have asked me at stoplights what aftermarket exhaust I have because they say it sounds like a "Z" too. I also have the 2004 tips which also add a bit of resonance. It's just a straight pipe of milled steel that replaces the space left where there used to be a resonator( approximately 14"). I've seen too many people get $1000 exhausts that only look pretty and are way too loud and get no substantial horsepower gains. Our stock exhaust is very free flowing so this mod will just give you that extra little sound you want without getting you bankrupt.

Sweet! Thanks for the additional info hygiene. One last question. Although I can think of no reason how it would make any difference since the resonator is straight through anyway, but did you notice any difference in engine feel/power/throttle response etc.? TIA again.

BTW, that Taurus and blue bucket (and the lopsided parking job) look awfully familiar. Didn't I just see this scene from the front recently?

hygiene,

Sounds like a good simple little mod. when chopping it out and replacing it, wouldn't it effect the flow? what about that 6" pipe that sticks out to the side; did you chop that off too?

The empty parking space to the right of me is the last one with a high curb. It's courtesy here to give the last space some extra backing up space so not to hit the curb. I didn't notice any gains from my mod except exceptional sound! I didn't mess with the little little dingy on the exhaust, it's still there. I don't think it could hurt the flow to remove the resonator only help it. I'm sure the resonator being not as smooth on the inside as a straight pipe would cause slight turbulence but I don't think you will get any crazy gains but removing it. Let me know if you wanna see a dyno from after the resonator was removed. I don't have a stock dyno to compare it to.

hygiene,

I remembered your explanation of the parking from the other thread.

I didn't expect that there would have been any type of gain from removing the resonator, just checking to make sure it didn't have any adverse affects. It would seem that it's there only for sound reduction purposes but you never know... I just may look into removing mine. Thanks again.

Did you weigh the resonator? A 5 lbs weight loss for $20 would be a bargain!

hygiene, what do you think if the 6" pipe to the side is removed? louder? or screw up the performance...
