Thinking my tranny is done.
Ok so my master cylinder is on its way out, I have yet to replace it. I have had some difficulty getting the car into 4th and 5th when accelerating fast. Like if I merge onto a highway and im in 2nd I can floor it and hit 3rd perfect but 4th and 5th crunch going in and are VERY difficult to get out. I know this is probably the synchros. But would they make it VERY hard to take out of the gear? If im driving normal light to light the car goes in gears fine and after about a day or so it comes out easy and goes back to feeling just fine. I am currently running mobil 1 75w90 in the tranny. I just wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions short of getting a new trans. Thanks!!!!
Mobil 1 75W-90 is a gear oil, but it may contain sulphur and that is BAD for brass synchro's.
Sulphur eats brass for breakfast
Change it - like clawhammer mentioned - to Honda's MTF or a simular manual transmission oil as soon as possible, maybe flush once (or twice) to make sure all the old oil is out.
Manual transmission oil is a LOT cheaper then new synchro's.
There have been posts from at least one other person using that Mobil 1 75W-90 without any ill effects (for a year IIRC) in the transmission, but I would not risk it.
Also.. do you skip shift?
If so, stop doing that.
5th gear synchro was designed to deal with rev differences from 4th and 6th, NOT 3rd or 2nd.

Yeah I used to skip shift back when I first got the car and the car reacted similar to how its acting now and I stopped and have never done it again. The problem went away after that. I was also thinking that with the cold weather here the fluid in the tranny is far too thick. Guess I now have plans on changing the fluid this weekend.....in the cold...lol. Thanks guys.
