Before you ask, i did spend quality time searching for answers. I will continue to do so but decided to post up as well.

Problem:
The third brake light seems to work intermittently. If i press the brakes, sometimes only the taillights turn on. On a couple occasions i've seen the third brake light turn on with a delay.

Diagnosis:
The taillights work properly every time, and the trunk release works fine. This suggests to me the brake light switch is fine and likely the harness. I checked the light bar for physical damage from the outside and didn't see anything obvious. Connector inside the trunk looks fine. My next step was going to be to get a dmm and test voltage and try to trace it back.

Any thoughts?

 

Try some Deoxit D5 on the electrical contacts. Work it in a couple of times. Usually dose the trick.

 

 

So i checked the wires in the trunk (watched some youtube videos to identify the usual areas of issue) and they were fine. After doing some more reading and thinking i decided to replace the brake light switch. I will keep monitoring but it appears the original issue is resolved. Thanks!
