Default Throttle Cable

Hey guys. Does the throttle cable get loose overtime? Also, out the factory, is the cable set at a conservative tension?
ie. If I tighten it a little more, will I get a better throttle response?

You can tighten it slightly to make it taught. All it will do is lessen how far you need to push the gas down. One thing that will get you a better throttle responce is a P-flow Throttle body. Not much if anything as far as HP but is quicker to respond I thought. $125 ish I think to have the factory one bored out and a new butterfly put in.

So, how is the adjustment to the throttle cable performed? Is this adjustment covered in the Helm's Manual or is it just a feel kind of thing?

Thanks,

Be careful - it is very important that there is at least some slack in the throttle cable. If not you risk breaking the cable (worst case) or causing wear in the throttle body.

I'm sure its in the service manual, but it is pretty obvious if you look at the throttle body. The cable sleeve terminates on a bracket on the intake manifold. The lanyard extends past the bracket to the throttle on the throttle body. There are two locknuts on the cable sleeve that can be adjusted to pull the cable sleeve away from the throttle body, which will remove the slack in the lanyard.

There should always be some amount of slack in the lanyard, so that the throttle won't be stuck partially open all the time, but if there is excessive slack, the gas pedal will go all the way to the floor without opening the throttle all the way.

It is a feel thing. I did this the night I installed my AEM CAI. Adjust cable, start the car, step on the gas, turn off the car, adjust, turn on, hit the gas and feel the pedal to response by sound and feel. Let idle and make sure your idle isn't higher than normal or you are open to much like someone already said or this would be like a choke on fuel injected car.

I wouldn't adjust the cable unless you feel the throttle is not opening completely. Turn the engine off and have someone press the pedal to the floor. Take your hand and see if you can open the throttle even further. If so, then go and adjust the cable.
