Default thug noise

hey guys,

i'm not sure if this has been posted yet...and i'm not quite sure how i would search this but i was wondering if anyone else had this problem..

i have ~6k miles now and i started noticing this last week...

when i'm in neutral and completely stopped, when i move to go into 1st gear, right when i hit the resistance point a "thud" noise comes from the rear...i never put the car into gear yet tho...its right when i move into the resistance point.

odd thing is, if the clutch is held down, and i do it, then back out and try again, the noise doesn't repeat itself...but if i put the clutch and do it, then release the clutch and then try it agian, the noise comes back...

anyone know what my problem may be? i'd like to know any ideas before i take the car into the dealership...

thanks in advance...

mike

Great discription of the noise man, lol. I thought it might be throwing signs at you

My tranny did the same kinda thing since the first day i bought it. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesnt. I v got almost 19k now and it hasnt caused any problems. I have heard others with the same issue as well.

Mine has 34K and does it also. Don't know if it's always done it, I bought it with 28K miles. Seems to shift OK to me.

Mine too. Reminds me of kicking the little lever with my foot to change into first on my CL350 I had back in 1970. With the clutch lever fully squeezed, the bike would give a tiny lurch forward when put in first. Seems you can't take the bike out of Honda. The first S version had a chain drive by the way (S500). Back in the sixties I think it was.

It seems like the clutch isn't disenguaging totally and when you put it into gear it has some resistance still there and tries to lunge the car forward but cant.

Its not totally uncommon. Mine even in the mornings does that. Even to the point of if its in first and try to roll it backwards on my slanted driveway. It doesn't roll nice till I take it out of gear and then it rolls fine. Almost 30K on that clutch(after a TSB) and no problems yet.

More than likely its your differential engaging when you slip in gear. I just installed a Nismo Limited Slip Diff. in my 240SX a couple of weeks ago and it quite noticeably engages with a thud and boy, does that inside wheel like to grab for traction, especially in the rain. So there you have it. Nothing to worry about.

It's your syncro's taking up slack and slowing down the tranny input shaft.
